About
ABOUT ME I have been making strange noises, climbing trees, singing the "wheels on the bus" and jumping up and down for 20 odd years trying to get that unique expression or look, and even though I sound a bit mad, I'm not obtrusive or loud.I started photography at the age of 16 at high school and remember my first class in the darkroom. I remember watching a image magically apear in the developer and from that moment I was addicted. I learnt with film and still have a love affair with film but have converted to digital.I recieved a scholarship in my first year and featured on a Television programme called "LIFE" showcasing my photography. Since then I haven't been able to put my camera down.I have also been published in "New Zealand Photography" magazine.My passion and style of portraiture is a mixture of abstract,contemporary and vintage.I also have an addiction for props and tend to spend alot of profit on them, shhhhusssh.....please don't tell my husband.My biggest and most proudest acheivement is being mother of my 2 beautiful girls who definitely aren't camera shy and have been both my reluctant and eager models. I have a very awesome and supportive husband who also has worked in the photography industry.

Even if you don't have one and don't intend to use one, please bring one. They sometimes need something to calm them after a feed.

FAQ
Q When will I get my portraits? A Studio sessions and Location shoots :I will email Low Resolution images for you to view and purchase from approx 2/3 weeks later (please note the images maybe grainy/pixilated looking due to being Low Res). You are not allowed to upload these on Facebook, Twitter or any other social network or website. Sometimes this time frame may be longer, especially in wedding season. Once you have paid for your order, it takes approx 7-14 days for you to receive your portraits. You will need to pick up from my home. Weddings : You will receive you disc/s and 6"x 4"s 21 days to 6 weeks after your wedding (however can take longer depending on how many weddings I have. Albums take 6-10weeks to complete.Q Can I print really big enlargements from the disc if I purchase it?A Yes. All Digital Images on disc are High Resolution which means you can enlarge into Poster sizes and Canvases at your own leisure.Q When is the best time to photograph a Newborn?A Newborns are more pliable when they are "Milk drunk" from 1 day - 10 days as they are tend to sleep more especially after feeds, if you want the sleeping baby portraits. Newborns really need at least 2 hours due to feeding and changing.Q What's the best age to photograph?A Any age! 0-100yrs! Children change so much and every age is fun and great to record!Q I'm worried if I want to do *naked shots that my little one may have an "accident "or my baby has reflux, and spills a lot.A Please DON'T be embarrassed if your little one may have an "accident"! This is perfectly normal when a nappy is removed......babies love Fresh air! And even babies that don't have reflux, that are placed on their tummies, tend to spill. I am used to this and have back up plans in place. ie, sanitiser and natural cleaning products ( everything goes into a hot wash ) extra materials.Q Can I help with smiles? A Yes of course but remember your childs safety is the MOST important thing and you will need to remain close to your child. If you have an extra set of hands and you want them to help with smiles. I usually like to see what I can do first as it can be a bit confusing for a child to look in 2 directions. Q My child's a little wary of strangers? A I totally can relate! If your little one/s are slow to warm, thats OK . My daughters were extremely clingy and needed to warm up to the person first . I like to check with parents first before I begin to find out a child's temperament.Q Can I bring anything?A Please bring a favourite toy to help with smiles or even something that is special or has sentimental values that you might like in the portrait like a teddy that Nana and Granddad gave them. Spare nappies, wipes, change of clothes, breast milk or formula if we are photographing a baby.Q What should I wear/dress my child/ren in?A If you are wanting colour, think about your decor in your home, for example, if you have red accents or walls you wouldn't want to dress in orange. You can't go wrong with denim, block colours, red, pink for girls or blues, greens for boys. Just remember your portraits may be on your walls for a very long time, so it pays not wear clothing that may date. Avoid busy patterns.Q How and when do I pay? A Portraits : A $50 deposit at time of booking is required to secure your appointment. Payment for prints/packages/canvases etc must be at time of ordering and there is a discount if you order within a week of receiving your proofs. I take Cash, Cheque or Internet banking. Weddings: A $300 deposit is required within 7 days of confirming your wedding date. Full payment is required 2 days before your wedding date, or if your are paying by Chq you must pay 7 days before your wedding date.Q Do you display my portraits without my permission?A Absolutely not! Your portraits will NOT be displayed unless you sign a release to do so.Q Who owns the copyright and can I tag mine on Facebook?A All images are owned by "Julie Willetts Photography" and have Copyright. If you sign a release to allowing me to share on Facebook you may "tag" the image as long as it's not altered , cropped , or my logo is removed. Once you have purchased a disc then you may upload onto Facebook without editing the images, so images are how I "Artiscally" visualise them. However you may print them and order them as much as you like and when you like if you have purchased the Disc. Q How many photos do you take?A I take an unlimited amount during your session however this is then edited down to approx 10-15 images for studio sessions, for weddings it depends on how long I am photographing. I will take approx 600-800images which are then edited down to approx 400images for an average length wedding.Q If I purchase the disc where should I get my photos printed?A I DON'T recommend any of the photo kiosks as they don't print true colours and tend to print images with quite a lot of contrast. Please take your disc to a professional lab and they will make sure you get the colours right.Q I'm pregnant, do I have to show my tummy? Or can keep it covered or I want to show it off.A You can do whatever you feel comfortable showing or not showing. Which goes for men also. *However please below note.* No private bits/sticky out bits, fluffy bits or pointy bits are shown in any of my portraiture.
